Welcome
Welcome
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Chapman High School Website. I am excited about the opportunities that our school provides to its students. The students, faculty, and staff of Chapman High School experienced another extraordinary year. Excitement, enthusiasm, and dedication were part of each day at our school. We are proud of our accomplishments and will continue to seek opportunities for further improvement.
During the 2007-2008 school year, the faculty and administration of CHS continued its focus on Literacy Strategies. Teachers employed various strategies as well as our thinking maps into classroom instruction that enhanced each discipline respectively. Our Guidance Department continued to participate in individualized academic advisement sessions with our students. During these advisement periods, students were informed of the many academic aspects that need to be considered at each grade level. Students also reviewed their transcripts while fine tuning their post-secondary plans. As a result, all students left these sessions with a plan for higher achievement and a clearer vision as to their career plans.
We also began planning for the 2008-2009 school year with our Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and High Schools That Work (HSTW) implementation. Our initial phase of this implementation plan began with Peer Coaching and Teacher Collaboration. Our teachers have developed a school wide instructional goal which focuses on professional learning communities and connections to literacy. These goals and strategies will be our focus for the 2008-2009 school year.
Our fine arts, athletics and club involvement continued to grow in participation and excelled in performance and expectations. The CHS varsity football, softball, and girls’ track teams clinched a region championship. The football team sealed an upper-state championship for the first time ever. The boys’ varsity basketball team clinched a play-off birth for the first time in 6 years. Although our volleyball, girls’ basketball, and baseball teams did not win a region championship, they forced tie breakers to determine the championships. The CHS Competition Cheerleaders successfully hosted a Kiddie Camp this summer and also hosted the first ever Panther Prowl Cheerleading Competition with our athletes receiving a second place finish. The CHS Competition Cheerleaders qualified for the State Cheerleading Competition for the first time ever. The JROTC participated in many community service activities that included providing military honors for local veterans’ funerals. The CHS orchestra and chorus received superior ratings and trophy at the spring concert festival and many individual students qualified for region and all state. Our FCA Leadership team sent six students to Leadership Camp making that more than any one school in our area.
We are excited about the experiences that a new school year will bring. Our students, teachers, and parents take great pride in our school and its success. It is my hope that you will use our website on a regular basis. It contains an abundance of information about programs and calendars as well as other items of great significance relevant to our school.
Our school theme this year is “Expect More”. We believe that with the quality of our students, faculty, community, and our facilities we can “expect more.” We will “Expect More”. We are setting the bar higher than it has ever been set at Chapman High School. School pride and spirit are at an all-time high and we are excited about what each new day will bring to CHS.
Please note that our website is well-organized and filled with information. However, if there is anything that you believe will benefit our users and visitors, please do not hesitate to contact me concerning your input.
Once again, welcome to the Chapman High School website! I look forward to your contributions in making the 2008-2009 school year the best ever.
