John Cann, LHS Athletic Director, “The Landrum High School Athletic Department has achieved great success.” Since 2002 we have won 58 Region Championships, 20 Upper State Championships, 11 Team State Championships and 10 individual State Championships. In the history of the school, we have won a total of 99 Region Championships, 34 Upper State Championships and 19 Team State Championships.
We are excited to be moving up to Region 1 – Class 2A. It will be an exciting and challenging time as we compete against larger schools. Our new Region includes: Blacksburg, Chesnee, Carolina, Liberty, Landrum, Powdersville, Crescent and Pendleton.
In 2006-07, we won the prestigious Herald Journal General Excellence Cup. This award goes to the most successful athletic program in the area. We compete for the award against the likes of Dorman, Spartanburg, Byrnes, Woodruff, Chesnee, Broome and Boiling Springs High School and have finished in the top 3 every year since. We have placed in the top 5 each of the past 8 years for the SCHSL Class A Directors Cup.
In 2011 – 2012 year we won 5 Region Championships in Girls and Boys Basketball, Boys Track, Wrestling and Softball and had 5 Coaches of the year. We had 1 Upper State Championship in Boys Track and 2 individual State Champions in Pole Vault-Shelby Morris and Peyton McCarter.
John Cann, Athletic Director, was awarded the 2011-2012 SCACA State AD of the Year award for South Carolina. This award is shared by the Athletic Secretary, Becky Wedde and a dedicated and outstanding group of coaches that truly love coaching our student-athletes.
In the current school year, 2012-2013, we have over 20 LHS graduates playing a sport in a College or University. We are so proud of our fine student athletes representing LHS on the college level. We had 7 senior athletes sign in 2011-2012 to play at the college level in football, boy’s basketball, boy’s soccer, and softball.
We have a dedicated staff of coaches that put their athletes first. We strive to instill good character, good sportsmanship and a strong work ethic in our student-athletes to help them succeed in the real world after graduation. Our facilities are among the very best in the Southeastern United States. We have incredible support from both the Landrum and Campobello communities.
