I.       Write a two-page, doubled spaced essay using Times New Roman 12 pt font that will include:

v     Give a brief  history on a famous and its construction. 

v     Identification of career areas used in the design and building of bridges.

v     Definition and incorporation of the following vocabulary in the essay text:

v     Why do we need bridges? What purpose do they serve?

v     How are bridges able to hold the tremendous amount of weight they hold?

v     Why is it important to know whether parts of a bridge will be subjected to tension or compression?

v     What is a polygon?

v     Why is a triangle the strongest polygon?

v     Why is it important to first create a blueprint and model of a bridge before the actual construction begins?

v     What materials are essential to design a scale or blueprint?

v     What geometric shapes did you use in the bridge model? Why?

v     How does the strength of the bridge compare to the weight of the bridge?

v     What would you do to design a bridge for the future?

v     How can computers help design bridges?
