Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is my hope that your child is enjoying English 3.  We have been very busy and have already studied many of the eleventh grade standards.

As partners in your child’s education, I want to let you know what we will focus on over the next few weeks.  English 3 will begin work on their Junior Projects on Friday, February 17th.  This project will comprise a large portion of your child’s grade.  Each student will receive a detailed assignment for the project stapled to an envelope.  Students are encouraged to store research materials in the envelope.  To monitor progress, the students must have me or the media specialist, Ms. Pope, sign off on assignments each day.  As our schedule will show, I have tried to allow plenty of time for students to work in class, in the media center, in the computer lab, and/or with laptop computers.  If students utilize their time wisely, they should be able to complete much of the project at school.  Please speak with your child regarding the necessity of focusing on the project and doing his/her best to meet all deadline requirements.  As we work through this, you will find the project requirements as well as many of the handouts and notes posted on my web page on the LHS website.  Please feel free to call or email if you have any questions.

Because I have allowed ample time for the assignment, any project or portions of project not handed in on time will receive a ten point per day deduction.  Students should plan their work so that they are not printing out a paper or completing a product at the last minute.  I understand that emergencies do happen; however, printer problems and forgetting the paper at home do not constitute emergencies.  If for some reason your child will not be at school on the date the project is due, he/she needs to arrange to turn in materials early.

Thank you so much for your support as we work to master the intricacies of producing a good research project.

Sincerely,

Debra Giles
