Looking Ahead to 2016-2017!

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope that you are having a great summer and are already anticipating the beginning of another school year. Over the years, Mabry has established itself as a school that continually raises the bar for student expectations and academic successes. I have every confidence that this year will prove to be no different. Our mission will continue to be “To do the right thing, for every student, every day!”

First, please be aware of several important dates of upcoming events:

  • Registration will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd from 7:30 - 6:00PM in our cafeteria. Parking will be available in front of the cafeteria, in the back of the gym as well as the parking lot located across from the MMS/IIS cafeterias.

  • CSI (Cub Summer Institute) for all rising 7th graders will be on Friday, August 5th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Mabry gym. Students will have an opportunity to meet their teachers, participate in team building activities, do a scavenger hunt, tour the school, and be assigned a locker. While attendance is not mandatory, it is greatly encouraged.

  • Football practice begins on Monday, August 15th from 3:30-5:30. In order to be eligible to play/practice, you must have a current athletic physical dated after April 1, 2016 on file in the front office.

  • Volleyball tryouts are scheduled to be August 9, 10, 11 from 5:00-6:30 PM in the Mabry gym. In order to be eligible to practice/play, you must have a current athletic physical dated after April 1, 2016 on file in the front office. Students must be present all three days and should have appropriate gym attire (athletic shoes and long hair pulled back). Parents are not permitted to attend tryouts.

  • First day of school is Monday, August 15, 2016.

There will be a lot of activities going on during registration, so we ask for your patience as you move from table to table. The first table you will come to is the “Proof of Residency” and “Outstanding Fees/Fines” located outside the cafeteria doors. ALL rising 7th graders and any students new to the district must provide proof of residency prior to being allowed to register for classes. To verify your address, you must provide one of the following: current lease/rental agreement that must be notarized, tax receipt, property deed, or a realtor contract. Utility bills, cell phone bills, satellite, cable or driver’s license will not be accepted as proof of residency. Proof of residency is required in every transition year when you move from one school campus to another, even within the same district.

Any fines or fees from last year must be paid before you will be allowed to enter the cafeteria to register. Chartwell will have personnel located at this table and will be available to clear up any outstanding cafeteria debt as well as establishing credit accounts for the upcoming school year. Any textbook, Chromebook, or library book fees must also be paid at this time. If your child has located any books from last year, please bring them with you to registration so the fee can be removed from your debt list.

On a final note, we need to make certain that our arrival and departure routes are clearly defined. In order to comply with all SCDOT regulations, all 7th grade car riders must be dropped off and picked up in front of the school. The front of our school is the entrance at the football field house and loops around by the track and back to the main road. All 8th grade car riders must be dropped off and picked up in the back parking lot behind the gym. All 8th grade traffic should enter and exit using Main Street. At NO time (AM/PM) should any student be dropped off and/or picked up at the cafeteria/gym area. Students may arrive for school anytime after 7:00 AM. In addition, any student who arrives at school after the bell rings at 7:50, must be escorted in by a parent to sign them in. All students should be picked up from school no later than 3:30 PM each day. We need your help in following these guidelines so that student safety is paramount and we can effectively supervise students as they arrive and depart from our campus.
