Japanese Artist Visits Inman Elementary School

During the week of November 12th, all 3rd grade students at Inman Elementary School were inspired by having a Japanese professional artist, Ayako Abe-Miller visit as she taught a collection of activities such as ink painting (Sumi-e), paper folding (Origami), Japanese kite-making (Tako), and Japanese lantern construction.  The artist-in-residency was made possible by the Tryon Fine Arts Center, Be Inspired Grant written by the art teacher, Gigi D’Ambrosio.

Students and their parents were also inspired by Ms. Miller at Art Night held on Thursday, November 16th as she demonstrated Suminagashi, which is a marbled ink design on paper.  Ms. Miller made such a lasting impression on so many children for years to come!
