Technology
The school is at the leading edge of educational technology. Technology
is used to support individualized instruction, testing, projects,
research, Golden Nugget News program, publishing, instructional
displays, power point presentations, and KAT. We have two fully
networked computer labs, each with 30 multimedia computers, an LCD
projector, a color laser printer, and a scanner. Additionally, our media
center has 23 computers, two scanners, a color laser printer, and a
poster printer. Teachers have access to 3 digital cameras and a video
camera. Two COWs (Computers on Wheels) with 15-networked laptops are
also available for checkout as is a portable workstation with an LCD
projector, is housed in the media center. Most classrooms have at least
two computers and a laser printer for student and teacher use. Laser
printers are networked.
During our recent construction and renovation, CNIC Inc. and CSI
combined strengths to provide state-of-the-art classroom environments
complete with the latest instructional technology products and services.
Each classroom also has a 32-inch television.
Six of the upper grade classrooms have a Promethean ActivBoard, five
of which are installed and one that is portable. The ActivBoards are
connected to a networked computer and an overhead LCD projector, which
allows anything on the computer monitor to be projected for whole class
instruction, including Internet sites, and software. Additionally, the
computer is loaded with Activ software, enabling teachers to construct
interactive lessons using images and sound. The wireless ActivSlate
allows teachers and students to manipulate the ActivBoard from anywhere
in the room. One ActivVote is available for teachers to use for
immediate student feedback when prompted with multiple-choice questions.
Each classroom is attached to a digital on demand media management
system. Although our digital library is still developing, the Video on
Demand (VOD) system will enable the teacher to search through previously
encoded video on an archive server and call it up immediately for
viewing. The server supports numerous video streams simultaneously, so
multiple classrooms can view the same video at the same time if
necessary. Communication is vital to any educational environment, so
each classroom is equipped with a Cisco Systems Voice-Over-IP (VOIP)
telephone. Each telephone allows four digits dialing across the school,
paging by zone, or to the administrative offices and voice mail.
