LHS Track Named After Local Doctor
Landrum High School recently hosted a dedication ceremony at its Track and Cross Country complex in honor of Dr. Todd Walter, Jr. This dedication is in recognition of 24 years of exceptional volunteer service to the Landrum High School community and its students.
Dr. Todd Walter has served as the sideline physician for Landrum High School home football games for the last 24 years, and has assisted in coaching multiple sports. Dr. Todd Walter began assisting Landrum High School in 1996 by serving as the sideline physician at all home football games.
Shortly thereafter, Dr. Walter implemented yearly after-school sports physicals where the entire profit would be turned back over to the school’s athletic programs. Dr. Walter was integral in the creation of Landrum’s first female soccer team and volunteered as an assistant coach over the next several seasons.
In 2004, he began working with the Landrum Cross Country and Track teams as a volunteer assistant coach. In 2008, Landrum High School earned the school’s first region XC championship and first state XC championship. In 2009, Dr. Walter was named the South Carolina Assistant Cross Country Coach of the Year for the entire state. This success continued over the following 12 years as the team ultimately amassed 11 Region Championships and 6 State Championships in cross country, as well as 15 Region Championships and 1 State Championship in track.
Thank you, Dr. Walter, for your service to the students and community of Landrum High School and Spartanburg One!
