Most remarkable Women Award

Chapman High School teacher Sundra Proctor-Smith has been selected as the Upstate market winner in the Remarkable Women contest presented by WSPA-TV, part of the nationwide initiative led by Nexstar Media Group.

Mrs. Proctor-Smith was chosen for her exceptional leadership, service, and dedication to strengthening both her school and the broader community.

A nomination submitted on her behalf described her leadership as “inclusive and empowering, centered on building legacy, nurturing future leaders, and ensuring that families and communities thrive together.” It also highlighted her integrity, compassion, and vision, noting the lasting impact she leaves wherever she serves.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Mrs. Proctor-Smith has served in influential community roles, including President of the Spartanburg Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and President of the Spartanburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she revitalized programs and expanded outreach efforts.

She remains actively engaged in civic leadership through organizations such as the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, and the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators. In 2020, she founded the Little Africa Community Fund, further demonstrating her commitment to grassroots community improvement and sustainable change in Spartanburg County.

Mrs. Proctor-Smith is also deeply committed to mentorship and youth development. Through programs such as Delta GEMS, Delta Academy, and Girls Circle, she helps young people, especially girls build confidence, explore leadership opportunities, and pursue excellence.
