Inman, SC — April 17, 2026 — Mabry Middle School took an exciting step toward fostering a love of reading among its students on Friday, April 17th, with the unveiling of its very first book vending machine.
The new addition, designed to reward students in literacy, allows selected students to “purchase” books using special tokens earned through positive behavior, academic achievement, and a commitment to reading. The initiative aims to make books more accessible while also creating a fun and motivating experience for students.
The book vending machine was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Cliffs Residents Outreach organization, whose support reflects a shared commitment to educational enrichment and student success. Their contribution ensures that students will have ongoing access to high-interest, age-appropriate books throughout the school year.
To commemorate the occasion, Mabry Middle School hosted a small ribbon-cutting ceremony with a group of selected students who were recognized for their efforts and achievements. These students were among the first to experience the excitement of choosing a book directly from the machine.
School leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the new initiative, noting that it aligns with the school’s mission to encourage lifelong learning and build strong literacy skills. By combining incentives with access, the book vending machine is expected to inspire more students to engage with reading in a meaningful way.
As the program launches, Mabry Middle School looks forward to expanding opportunities for students to earn books and continue building a culture where reading is celebrated.
